According to recent archaeological discoveries, it has been confirmed by international experts that Lin, the village in southeastern Albania (on the western shore of the lake), is the oldest known settlement in Europe to date.
The discoveries were made by a joint Albanian–Swiss–German team through underwater excavations.
The settlement of Lin is a pile-dwelling (a city built on wooden stilts over the water) dating back around 6,600 years before Christ, meaning approximately 8,600 years ago.
It is older than other well-known prehistoric settlements in Europe, such as those in the Swiss Alps or in the Balkans.
Thousands of well-preserved wooden beams have been found, together with artifacts such as stone tools, pottery, and dwelling structures.
According to experts, this settlement possessed advanced technology for its time, particularly in the fields of construction and agriculture.
