An unidentified body found at the MEK camp in Manza, Durres of Albania. Tensions escalate as clashes occur between Mojahedins and Albanian police. Investigation ongoing.

In a camp operated by the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) organization in Manza, Durres, of Albania an unidentified lifeless body of a 65-year-old man was discovered.

The cause of death has not been officially determined yet. MEK lawyer, Gjokutaj, confirmed the death of one person and stated that 50 others were injured during clashes with the Albanian police.

Numerous individuals within the camp have reported respiratory issues and eye burns, and they are currently receiving oxygen treatment.

The State Police encountered resistance from camp residents during routine inspections following an order from the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime.

Due to the resistance of the residents, the police used tear gas, while Shahriar Kia, the spokesperson for the Ashraf camp, claimed that one of the residents was killed by the police. However, the police have yet to issue an official statement.

Shahriar Kia stated, “A resident of Ashraf was killed by the police attack. This action is solely to appease the Iranian mullahs who are falling. This operation is similar to the one that took place on June 17th in Paris, but this one is at the border of Albania. This is one of the darkest days in Albania. What I wrote is not the official stance of Ashraf authorities, but what the residents of Ashraf are saying.” He further expressed concerns about the dangerous situation for the Ashraf residents, alleging that brutal conditions were being imposed by the police in Ashraf.

Following these events, tensions have escalated within the camp, with MEK members protesting against the police’s actions.

The order for inspections is part of the ongoing fight against terrorism and the prevention of cyber attacks. Many of the camp’s residents, who provide shelter for the Iranian opposition, have been detained and questioned by the authorities before being released.

In accordance with the decision of the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime and the execution order of the Prosecutor’s Office at this Court, the State Police, as part of an operational plan, initiated inspections of all the facilities and offices where residents live for humanitarian purposes within the MEK camp in Manza, Durres. The State Police has undertaken measures to implement the inspections, strictly adhering to ethical standards and communication while respecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of all citizens and the community residing in the camp. Police inspection teams continue their work within the territory of the MEK camp and its internal facilities. A more detailed statement will be provided upon completion of the inspections, according to the State Police.

Currently, around 3,000 MEK members, referred to as the Iranian opposition in exile, are estimated to be living in Ashraf-3 Camp. The Mujahideen first arrived in Albania in 2013 following an agreement with the then-Albanian government led by Sali Berisha.

It should be noted that during the past year, public online services and government websites were temporarily shut down due to synchronized and sophisticated cybercriminal attacks originating from Iran.
